Treatment of Traumatic Anterior Shoulder Instability-Arthroscopic versus Open Bankart Repair-

Abstract

|
This study compared outcomes of open and arthroscopic Bankart repairs in treatment of young patients with traumatic anterior shoulder instability. We polled 43 patients with traumatic anterior shoulder instability. Sixteen patients were treated with the open Bankart repair and the remaining 27 with the arthroscopic Bankart repair. In the follow-up, Rowe and Constant scores increased meaningfully in both treatments and external rotation got wider when they were treated with the arthroscopic method, although there were statistically no significant differences (P>0.05). Two and three cases of relapses were reported in the treatment by open and arthroscopic methods, respectively. From the results of VAS scores, it became evident that patients preferred the arthroscopic method to the open one. In case of young and active patients, there were no functional differences between the open and arthroscopic methods but patient`s subjective satisfaction increased in arthroscopic methods
